Yen holds near 158.00 as BoJ inflation view and Fed pressure focus: Oct 20, 2026

The yen is holding in a range around 158.00 to 158.50 against the dollar as intervention risks limit moves while markets seek direction. Bank of Japan Governor Ueda said underlying inflation is close to target, with reports the bank may upgrade its inflation outlook while holding rates steady and shifting focus to keeping inflation at 2% with wages as the key. High U.S. inflation, high energy and oil prices and a tight Fed are adding to pressure on the yen.
