USD/JPY near 158 as yield gap meets intervention risk and BoJ tilt: Oct 17, 2026

USD/JPY is trading near 158 as support from the yield gap runs into Japan's intervention risk. The yen has held gains on a hawkish tilt from the Bank of Japan, with Governor Ueda saying rates will continue to rise as underlying inflation approaches 2%. It also held firm despite hotter-than-expected U.S. producer and consumer inflation, with intervention warnings in focus ahead of a speech from Fed's Warsh.
