USD/JPY news for October 16, 2026
The yen slipped to a three-week low and toward September lows after US CPI and inflation data lifted the US dollar, then recovered it all to a one-week high as sliding US bond yields weighed on the dollar. It was later seen treading water below 158.50 ahead of the US CPI release. Traders also watched a Bank of Japan push for hikes, a Tokyo stock rout and positioning ahead of a speech from Fed Warsh.
